HOW TO SPEAK ISRAELI IN FIVE WORDS
By Mili Avital
What does language reveal about culture differences? In the global economy, we are increasingly asked to communicate with people whose assumptions and expectations we know little about. Using five key words that exist in Hebrew — but not English — I will show how the two cultures have very different ideas about space, hierarchy, time, and law and order.
As an Israeli - American who immigrated to the US 25 years ago, I will draw on my professional experiences, as an actress in the American entertainment industry, and from my personal life, in a hybrid culture. I will explore core values, physical behavior, language and mentality in both American and Israeli cultures, to help decode “the other”, and best communicate who we really are. (30 min).
